The home balances light-filled architectural openness with layered interior styling. Black-framed glazing, warm timber furniture, sculptural vessels, patterned upholstery, botanical scatter cushions, textured rugs and personal display moments create an interior that feels refined, welcoming and beautifully lived in. Project Overview

THE BRIEF

The client wanted a home that felt:

  • Relaxed, elegant and deeply liveable
  • Contemporary without feeling cold or clinical
  • Warm, personal and beautifully curated
  • Suitable for both everyday family living and entertaining
  • Connected to the garden and outdoor living areas
  • Layered with texture, colour and personality
  • Refined without feeling overly formal

The objective was to create a cohesive residential interior design solution that connected the home’s living, dining, kitchen, outdoor and bedroom areas through repeated materials, warm textures, considered furniture choices and carefully curated styling.

The home needed to feel complete and polished, while still allowing space for personal detail, comfort and the natural ease of everyday living.

THE DESIGN APPROACH

Giava Interiors approached the project through a collected contemporary design language, combining clean architectural openness with warm materiality, layered texture and curated residential styling.

Rather than creating a space that felt overly minimal or showroom-like, the design focuses on warmth, comfort and personality. Timber furniture, open shelving, classic silhouettes, black-framed glazing, patterned upholstery, sculptural décor and botanical accents work together to create a home that feels thoughtful, expressive and welcoming.

The indoor-outdoor connection plays an important role throughout the project. Large windows and doors bring in natural light and garden views, allowing the interiors to feel open, fresh and connected to the surrounding landscape.

The result is a Constantia home that feels elegant yet relaxed, contemporary yet personal, and beautifully suited to the rhythm of everyday family living.

Key Design Principles

  • Indoor-outdoor flow: Large black-framed doors and windows connect the interiors to garden views, natural light and outdoor living spaces.
  • Collected contemporary styling: Sculptural vessels, ceramics, books, framed photographs, patterned upholstery and curated objects create a home that feels personal rather than overly staged.
  • Warm natural materiality: Timber furniture, open shelving, woven rugs, tactile textiles and soft upholstery bring warmth and depth into the contemporary interior.
  • Classic forms with modern contrast: Traditional furniture shapes, upholstered dining chairs and turned table legs are balanced with black architectural frames, modern lighting and clean cabinetry.
  • Layered comfort: Cushions, throws, rugs, curtains, textured bedding and tactile finishes soften the home and make each room feel welcoming, calm and liveable.

The result is a refined contemporary home that feels collected, comfortable and intentionally designed - bringing together relaxed luxury, practical family living and a strong sense of personality.

ARCHITECTURAL DETAILS & CUSTOM FEATURES

Beyond the furniture and styling, this project is strengthened by architectural and custom design details that bring rhythm, structure and functionality to the home.

Timber slat wall treatments create warmth and visual interest, while also introducing practical moments such as an entrance bench and hanging detail. Custom cabinetry, open shelving, display units and kitchen-adjacent storage allow the home to feel organised without losing its sense of personality.

The TV wall continues this balance of function and refinement, combining timber slatting, floating cabinetry, clean white surfaces and sculptural décor. These details create visual continuity across the home and help each space feel intentionally resolved.

The custom features support the broader design language: warm, functional, contemporary and quietly sophisticated.

WHY THIS INTERIOR DESIGN WORKS

This project works because it balances openness with warmth, and refinement with personality.

The home has a strong contemporary foundation, seen in the black-framed glazing, clean architectural lines, open-plan flow and tailored cabinetry. These elements are softened through timber, layered textiles, patterned upholstery, natural greenery, sculptural objects and personal display pieces.

Nothing feels forced or overly staged. Each room has its own character, but repeated colours, materials and textures create a clear design thread throughout the home.

The result is a residential interior that feels elegant without being cold, curated without being cluttered, and luxurious without losing the comfort of everyday living.

FAQs

Collected contemporary interior design combines modern layouts and clean architectural details with layered furniture, personal décor, warm materials and curated styling. The result is a home that feels refined, liveable and personal rather than overly minimal or showroom-like.

A warm contemporary home can be created through timber furniture, soft upholstery, layered rugs, curtains, natural textures, greenery, warm lighting and carefully selected décor. These elements soften modern architecture and make the space feel more inviting.

Indoor-outdoor flow helps a home feel more open, spacious and connected to its surroundings. Large doors, generous windows, garden views and outdoor living spaces can improve natural light, create better movement through the home and support a more relaxed lifestyle.

Interior styling brings personality into a home through artwork, books, ceramics, cushions, décor pieces, photographs, plants and meaningful objects. These details help a space feel collected, lived in and emotionally connected to the people who use it.

A full-service residential interior design project can include concept development, space planning, furniture selection, finishes, custom cabinetry, soft furnishings, décor sourcing, styling and installation. The goal is to create a cohesive interior that is professionally planned and beautifully completed.

Residential interior design costs depend on the size of the home, the project scope, the level of customisation, furniture selections, finishes, décor requirements and installation needs. Giava Interiors offers tailored interior design solutions based on each client’s lifestyle, vision and project requirements.
